Sustainability fundamental can be sorted in three major groups :
1-Environment and Energy
2- Culture and Occupants
3- Financial and construction
All of them will be sorted briefly in following :
1-Environment and Energy
-Sustainable and energy efficient site design
- Saving water resources and their quality in order to reduce pollution and water waste
- Consuming renewable energies instead of fossil fuel which can reduce pollution and negative effects.
- Energy management in building in order to increase efficiency and energy performance
-Climatic design to obtain maximum available energy from climatic parameters like solar gains , natural ventilation or reduce these parameters negative effects.
- Design self sustain building in order to aim net zero construction
- Design clean building in order to zero carbon design
-Make minimum available changes in environment during design and construction also design lifespan
- Avoid making waste and pollution as a result of designing efficient and clean designs
- Make an understanding about surrounding environment and local Eco-system to avoid passing borders
2-Culture and Occupants
-Safe and Healthy design which mean design in way to fulfill occupants needs and it be stable faced to earth quake and disasters
- High quality interior environment that mean building avoid dingy and isolated spaces and provide light fresh air and other human needs as well as creating comfortable spaces
- Pay attention to occupants and vicinity culture to match building with individuals culture and match building with local culture limits.
- Blend building with local construction pattern.
3-Financial and Construction
- Use local capability during construction and building lifespan in order to empower local market
- Consuming Recycle and reused materials
- Minimum distribution of morbid gases
- Consuming Least toxic materials in order to improve occupant and workforce health and reduce side effects
- Enduring material and sustainable construction to make construction financial efficient
- Recyclable material consumption in order to reduce wastes
- Local produced materials use in order to make local market more active and reduce transporting
pollution and cost
- Focusing on local form and techniques because local designs matched climatic limits and solve them during centuries
- High quality construction in order to make building long lasting
P.s. : These picture are Mr. Nader khalili designs. He is and Iranian architect who invented mega mud brick in order to create low priced building for poverties. another goal of this design method described as Fast construction in case of disasters to make home for people. His designs is good examples for sustainability because he used local and healthy material (Soil) , Local form (dome : iranian and middle eastern form) and plan as occupants need which fitted to users culture. they are energy efficient because of soil heat diffusivity which reduce heat absorbing in summer and heat loss during winter that cause reducing energy consumption.
